Journey to Polish Wrocław

We will step back in time to the end of World War II to explore the migration movements in the Lower Silesia region. This tour will cover the resettlement of Polish citizens, the expulsion of Germans, the characteristics of these movements, their various stages, and the authorities and organisers involved in this process. These are just some of the topics we will delve into while discussing the so-called Recovered Territories.

Post-War Wrocław

The main attraction of the Centre for Zajezdnia History is the permanent exhibition “Wrocław 1945–2016”, dedicated to the city’s post-war history. Children and young people will explore the broader context of post-war border changes, population shifts, the city’s reconstruction, and its resettlement. The level of information shared during the tour is tailored to suit each age group.

We Learn Solidarity

What happened in Wrocław during the August strikes? How did life in the People’s Republic of Poland (PRL) change after the agreements were signed? What new challenges did Polish citizens face? And most importantly, how did the communist government react to the changes? This specially designed tour will delve into the events of 1980 and beyond, while exploring the democratic opposition’s activities over the years.

Sport plays a significant role in our daily lives and social life, but how familiar are we with the history of Polish sport? This tour is perfect for those curious about this topic. We’ll look into the origins of Polish sport during the Second Polish Republic, explore what happened to athletes during WWII, examine the changes in sport during the communist era, and, of course, learn about the individuals who made significant contributions to both Polish and global sports.

Hand Me a Brick: How Poland Was Built
AGE: secondary school students
DURATION: 1–1.5 hours
During this session on architecture and urban planning, we’ll explore intricately decorated townhouses, notable public buildings, as well as innovative housing designs and towering apartment blocks. We’ll discover how cities and structures evolved over the decades and how these changes impacted daily life. Concepts like functionalism, art deco, socialist realism, and postmodernism will no longer be a mystery.
