Hugo Dionizy Steinhaus ( urodzony w 1887r w Jaśle- zm. w 1972 we Wrocławiu), matematyk, prof. Uniwersytetu Jana Kazimierza i Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego. Współtwórca lwowskiej szkoły analizy funkcjonalnej oraz wrocławskiej szkoły teorii prawdopodobieństwa i zastosowań matematyki. Jesienią 1945r przybył do Wrocławia , gdzie stał się jednym z twórców wrocławskiego środowiska naukowego.
