On 11 December, at 6:00 PM, the Depot History Centre invites you to another event in the Time Travel Wrocław series – a unique project for international and English-speaking students living in Wrocław.
This meeting focuses on Polish Christmas traditions. Polish Christmas is a rich blend of old customs, religious influences, regional practices and the experiences of several generations. During the December edition, we will explore what Christmas looked like in the times of the Polish People’s Republic (PRL) – in the reality of empty shops and state propaganda that attempted to give the holiday a more “secular” character. We will also compare these historical traditions with the way Christmas is celebrated in Poland today.
The event will begin with a guided tour of the exhibition Wrocław 1945–2016, where participants will hear Christmas-related stories and learn about the historical background of Polish holiday customs.
Afterwards, they will have the chance to taste traditional Polish Christmas dishes and take part in the Polish Christmas Traditions activity, where they will try to recognise both Polish Christmas foods and dishes from other parts of the world.
